Square or Circle
The main purposes of Xin Chen's design are communicating the different cultures and offering a new experiencing to appreciate the furniture. He has created a new way of constructing furniture that is joining all individual parts and holding them together through rope by tension without gluing and screwing. He has also created a new form of furniture representation that is disassembling the furniture into individual pieces, then rearranging and transforming into a new cultural image representation. The design can be satisfied with both functional and aesthetic for people simultaneously.
Square or Circle Chair by Xin Chen was identified as a grand representation of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Square or Circle Chair was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2020. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design competition which celebrates outstanding design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
