Alternative
Alternative is an art installation created for a city festival in Neftekamsk, Russia. A decommissioned oil pump unit, 4.5 metres high and 6 metres wide, was reused as the base of the artwork. Detailed calligraphy in gold paint was applied over a black background, forming intricate letters that catch the sunlight. The installation stands in the station square, at the crossing of pedestrian and vehicle routes. The reuse of industrial equipment raises the theme of ecology and invites residents to see their city in a new way.
Alternative Art Installation by Dmitry Kudinov was identified as an outstanding illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Alternative Art Installation was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2022. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design recognition program which honors exceptional design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
