Pop Star

Pop Star is an art installation and view platform based on the geometric shape of the icosahedron. The work is built as a steel structure measuring 15000 mm in each direction. The form is derived from the compound eye of an insect, enlarged to a scale beyond normal human visual reading. Visitors can enter the central area and look out over the surrounding fields. From the outside the volume appears solid and imposing, while the inner space feels quiet and enclosed. Pop Star was designed in Beijing in 2019 and completed in Shanghai in 2020.

The installation covers 24 square meters and turns with the sea breeze, following light and shadow along the coast.

The tape absorbs sunlight during the day and emits light at night, so the train becomes a moving lantern without electrical power. The interior is decorated with luminous foils and changing lights. The installation was created for the Taiwan Lantern Festival and applies several tape art techniques.
